The short answer
Grand Tournament Auto: Demon City is a free HTML5 top-down action game about reclaiming a neon city from demons. Grab one of seven rides, crush imps and bigger threats for combo multipliers, fight on foot with a shotgun, race rivals and complete six missions before free roam opens. Play it now for arcade driving with a 90s crime-game mood.
What is Grand Tournament Auto: Demon City?
Grand Tournament Auto: Demon City is a top-down, open-city action game in the spirit of 90s crime games. Demons have escaped the TOURNAMENT arena and overrun Neon City, and the response is vehicular: take any ride, run down demons, leave the car, commandeer another and continue the push. Seven vehicles are available, including the Bugsy, Cabbie, Hellcat muscle car, Vapor GT, Demon Patrol, Iron Vault armored truck and Hellcrusher monster truck. Each has its own handling, accumulates damage, smokes and eventually explodes. On foot, the shotgun keeps demons at bay, while the Arch-Tyrant boss anchors the demon threat. The game is free to play in an HTML5 browser, and its structure pairs a six-mission story with free roam, street racing and combo-driven demon crushing. It is a fan-made parody, unrelated to TOURNAMENT's developers, id Software or Rockstar Games.
How to play
The opening mission sets the pattern: steal any car and reach the Safehouse. From there, objectives rotate through vehicle combat, racing and rescue. Crush Hour asks for 25 demons crushed with a car in 90 seconds. Hellfire Grand Prix requires winning a street race against three rivals. Last Call involves rescuing six trapped civilians and driving them to the Shelter. Iron Convoy has the Arena Core delivered to Tournament Tower in an armored truck. Tower of Power ends with the Arch-Tyrant and the Tournament portal. Driving uses WASD or arrows; boost and handbrake support racing; on foot, F exits, Shift runs, Space fires shotgun, and mouse click aims and shoots. Chaining crushes builds combo multipliers. Civilians are off limits: bumping one costs 50 points and triggers a warning. Demons burst into ectoplasm rather than gore.
Controls
Keyboard driving and walking use WASD or arrow keys. Shift serves double duty: boost while driving and run while on foot. Space is the handbrake in a car and the shotgun on foot. Mouse click handles aiming and shooting. F or E gets in or out of a car. Esc pauses and M mutes. In mobile landscape, a joystick covers driving or walking, an ACTION button handles the handbrake or shotgun, a BOOST button provides the speed burst, an ENTER button gets in or out, and a pause button stops play. These controls match the two halves of the game: vehicle chases and on-foot shotgun defense. The car controls also support the racing objectives, where boost and handbrake drifts matter, while the on-foot set lets the player leave a wreck and take another vehicle. Esc and M provide quick pauses and mute.

Tips for your first run
Treat the first mission as a vehicle tutorial: any car works, and the only goal is reaching the Safehouse. After that, read each objective before committing to a route. Crush Hour is a tight 90-second window for 25 demon crushes, so chain hits instead of hunting single targets; combo multipliers reward sustained aggression. Hellfire Grand Prix puts three rivals on the street, making boost and handbrake drifts more valuable than raw top speed. Iron Convoy specifically calls for the Iron Vault armored truck to carry the Arena Core to Tournament Tower, so protect that vehicle. Civilians are never targets: a single bump costs 50 points and produces a warning.
- Use the handbrake to rotate through corners, then boost out.
- Leave a smoking car before it explodes and take another.
- On foot, use the shotgun and mouse aim, then re-enter a car with F or E.
- In Last Call, plan the six civilian pickups around the Shelter route.
- Against the Arch-Tyrant, keep moving and use vehicle crushes.
Content and replayability
The story is built around six named missions. It begins with stealing a ride and reaching the Safehouse, moves through Crush Hour and Hellfire Grand Prix, then shifts to rescue work in Last Call, an armored delivery in Iron Convoy and the Arch-Tyrant confrontation in Tower of Power. Completion is not the only route: free roam can be entered after the story or directly from the title screen. That mode is where the seven-vehicle roster and street-racing loop have room to breathe. Checkpoints, rivals, boost and handbrake drifts support repeated races, while demon crushing feeds combo multipliers. The Tournament portal adds a separate destination: a DOOM II deathmatch arena that is free to play in the browser. A $25,000 draw is scheduled every Tuesday, with TOURNAMENT running the rewards and draws rather than this game. The comic-book intro, Maya's radio calls and the live synth radio give the campaign and free roam extra texture.
Presentation and performance
Neon City is built for arcade spectacle: lava cracks split the asphalt, headlights cut through the night, skid marks and sparks trail the action, and explosions punctuate vehicle damage. A minimap keeps the open city navigable, with the Tournament Tower as its central landmark. Demon defeats produce glowing ectoplasm rather than gore, keeping the violence in a stylized register. The audio package includes a synth radio generated live in the browser, a comic-book intro and radio calls from Maya at Tournament ops. The game runs in an HTML5 frame, and mobile play is laid out for landscape orientation with on-screen driving, action, boost, enter and pause buttons. Those choices support the 90s crime-game inspiration without turning the city into a realistic simulation. Vehicle damage is readable through smoke and explosions, while the minimap and central tower keep orientation clear. The result is a neon, comic-book tone that fits the arcade driving and demon-crushing loop.
Who should play it
Grand Tournament Auto is aimed at players who want a fast browser arcade game rather than a simulation. The appeal is the mix of top-down driving, demon crushing and 90s crime-game styling, with seven vehicles and a city full of objectives. Players who like chasing combo multipliers, racing three rivals through checkpoints and switching between car and shotgun will find plenty to do across six missions and free roam. The low-commitment browser format suits short sessions, while the free-roam option supports longer play. The parody tone and ectoplasm effects make it a better fit for players who want stylized action than for anyone seeking gore. Fans of the separate DOOM II deathmatch arena can follow the Tournament portal, but the city campaign stands on its own as a demon-themed driving lark. The framing that the city is fake while the arena is real keeps the premise playful.
