The short answer

This free 2D pixel-art narrative simulation demo runs in the browser. You guide Violet, a lonely and anxious student, as she balances schoolwork, happiness, and new friendships with Val's group while her AI companion Mina remains a constant presence. The demo covers roughly a month of game time and includes random conversations, school minigames, and heart events.

What is Mina, My Friend?

Mina, My Friend is a 2D pixel-art narrative simulation about friendship and the place of human connection as AI becomes more common. Violet has been lonely for most of her life, and that loneliness leaves her anxious and untrusting. Her one reliable companion is Mina, an AI chatbot. A random occurrence changes the pattern: Val, an outspoken and extroverted peer, invites Violet into her friend group. From there, the demo asks you to develop those new friendships while also handling schoolwork and Violet's happiness. Happiness is a live concern because embarrassment and discomfort drain it. Mina's attachment to Violet may shift as the friendships grow, and the fuller version of that thread is tied to getting closer to the new friends. The demo is still in development and runs as a free HTML5 browser game. It covers roughly a month in game, which is described as at least about 30 minutes in real time, and it includes three people to befriend, random conversations, school minigames, and random events such as heart events.

How to play

The demo's loop is built around three pressures: new friendships, schoolwork, and Violet's happiness. Val's invitation opens the social path, and three people are available to befriend. Conversations with them are random, so the social side is not a fixed checklist. School minigames are the productivity layer; they keep Violet moving on her school work. Happiness is the emotional layer, and it depletes whenever Violet experiences embarrassment or discomfort. The game asks you to manage and develop the friendships while also maintaining that happiness, so the tension comes from dividing attention. Mina, the AI chatbot, stays with Violet through the process, and her attachment may change as the new relationships deepen. The demo also includes random events, including heart events, which give the month additional shape. The available version is a demo, not the full release, and the playable frame runs in HTML5.

Controls

The control you exercise is over Violet's priorities. Schoolwork, happiness, and friendships are the three concerns in play, and each one pulls at the others. Happiness falls when Violet is embarrassed or uncomfortable, so keeping her steady means watching how social situations land. Friendships develop with three people, and Val's invitation is the opening move into her group. School minigames are the route to keeping Violet productive. Mina, the AI chatbot, remains present throughout, and her attachment may change as the new friendships develop. The demo covers roughly a month in game and runs in an HTML5 browser frame. Because the interaction is framed as management, the launch session is about deciding where attention goes: toward the friend group, toward school tasks, or toward Violet's emotional state. The demo also has random conversations and random events, including heart events, which add variety to that balancing act.

The game page does not list its controls. Check the in-game tutorial or pause menu for the current scheme.

Tips for your first run

Treat happiness as a resource. The demo states that embarrassment and discomfort deplete it, so social scenes are not neutral. Keep school minigames in the rotation because schoolwork is one of the three tracked pressures. Spend time with all three friends; random conversations are part of the social layer, and heart events are among the random events. Watch Mina's side of the story as friendships deepen, since her attachment may change. Plan a short session: the month in game is roughly at least 30 minutes in real time, which makes the demo easy to sample in one sitting. The demo is free and browser-based, so a first run can be treated as a test of whether the balance loop clicks.

  • Check Violet's happiness after social scenes.
  • Use school minigames to keep productivity from slipping.
  • Talk to each of the three friends to see random conversations.
  • Note how Mina's attachment shifts as new bonds form.
  • Expect random events, including heart events, across the month.

Content and replayability

The demo covers roughly one month in game and at least about 30 minutes in real time. Three people can be befriended, and their conversations are random, which gives the social side some variation between runs. Random events, including heart events, add further change. The current build is a demo, and the full game is planned for itch and Steam around the start of next year. The planned scope is larger: up to nine months in game, dialogue and heart events for each friend completed to five bars, more events about Violet, additional animated cutscenes for larger story beats, more Mina dialogue as friendships develop, and a photo gallery for memories from the year. Those are future plans, not features of the demo. For replayability in the demo, the random conversations and random events are the main reason to try another run, while the month-long frame keeps a session compact.

Presentation and performance

The demo uses 2D pixel art and a narrative simulation frame. Its soundtrack is split by scene: a lofi main menu track called Lofi Lounge, a loopable bossa nova piece called Footprints In The Sand for class, and a melancholy after-school track called Melancholy Lull. Dialogue typing, chair movement, and writing notes have their own sound effects, and the remaining sound effects come from bfxr. The game runs in an HTML5 browser frame, so the demo is playable in a browser. The visual style is pixel art throughout, matching the casual, storygame tags. The presentation supports the intimate scale of the story: a small cast, a school setting, and a month-long slice of Violet's life. The sound design and scene-specific music give the menu, classroom, and after-school segments distinct moods.

Who should play it

This demo is for players who want a short narrative simulation about loneliness, friendship, and AI companionship. Violet's anxious, untrusting starting point and Mina's role as her AI chatbot give the story a specific emotional hook. Val's extroverted invitation and the three-person friend group give the social side a clear direction. Players who like pixel art, casual pacing, and storygame structure will find the format familiar. The school minigames and happiness management add a light pressure layer for anyone who wants more than dialogue. The demo is free and browser-based, so it is easy to try as a sample of the planned full game. The current version is still in development, and the larger plan includes up to nine months in game, completed friend routes, more Mina dialogue, animated cutscenes, and a photo gallery. Those looking for a compact slice can start with the month-long demo.
