The short answer
Spirevale is a cozy pixel-art life-sim RPG demo set in a land split into four climes. You start with an empty pack at a cottage outside a village, then farm, fish, craft, befriend villagers, and descend the three-floor Old Copperdeep Mine. The free browser demo lets you solve four villager troubles and finish the mine, then keep playing the saved file.
What is Spirevale?
Spirevale is a cozy pixel-art life-sim RPG set in a land divided into four climes. The demo begins with an empty pack and a small cottage outside a village, so the first task is to build a routine from very little: collect fallen branches and pebbles, craft basic tools, tend the garden by the door, and get to know the people nearby. The demo covers the village, the surrounding land, and the Old Copperdeep Mine. Four villagers have troubles to solve, and the mine has a bottom to reach; completing those goals finishes the demo. The save remains afterward, so farming, fishing, and exploration can continue at your own pace. This is a free browser demo for HTML5, and the project is still in development.
How to play
Start by gathering fallen branches and pebbles, then craft a stone axe, a pickaxe, and a hoe; better tools lead toward iron. The cottage garden supports wheat, carrots, potatoes, pumpkins, and berries, which you till, sow, and water, though rain does the watering for you. Fishing asks you to cast a line and keep the fish in the green zone. Cooking covers stews, pies, and soups, with recipe scrolls unlocking new dishes. Build mode lets you lay floors and place furniture, workbenches, lights, and fences, and the house can be made bigger. In the village, bring gifts to make friends, roll the dice and hear the bard at the tavern, and take notices from the quest board. Two strays wait by the cottage door, a puppy and a baby dragon; adopt one and it follows you, joins fights, and brings a find each morning. In the Old Copperdeep Mine, fight with swords, quick knives, heavy battleaxes, bows, or wands and staves that throw fire and ice. Monsters grow bolder after dark, so keep a fire lit. Skills improve through use in mining, fishing, combat, and trading.
Controls
Keyboard and mouse controls use WASD to move, left-click or Space to use the held item, and right-click or E to interact. The pack, crafting, build mode, journal, map, and options have their own keys; C opens crafting, B enters build mode, J shows the journal, M opens the map, and O opens options. Those bindings cover movement, item use, interaction, inventory, crafting, building, journal, map, and options. Every key can be changed in Options. The options menu is where keyboard bindings are changed. A gamepad works after it is plugged in and any button is pressed. Touch play uses an on-screen stick and buttons. The demo runs directly in a browser, and fullscreen is the recommendation. The game saves automatically in the browser; clearing the browser's site data erases that save.

Tips for your first run
Begin by picking up fallen branches and pebbles around the cottage, then craft a stone axe, pickaxe, and hoe. That small tool set opens gathering, mining, and garden work, and iron is the next upgrade to aim for. Plant several crops rather than one, because rain can handle watering and the garden sits right by the door. When fishing, watch the green zone and keep the fish there to land it. Choose the puppy or the baby dragon early; the companion follows into fights and brings a small find every morning. Keep a fire lit once night makes monsters bolder, and carry the weapon type that suits the run, whether that is a sword, quick knife, heavy battleaxe, bow, wand, or staff. Read recipe scrolls to expand cooking, check the quest board for villager work, and give gifts to build friendships. Skills rise through use, so mining, fishing, combat, and trading improve by doing them.
- Gather branches and pebbles before spending time in the mine.
- Craft the stone axe, pickaxe, and hoe first.
- Let rain water the garden when it falls.
- Adopt only one stray: the puppy or the baby dragon.
- Keep a fire lit after dark and bring ore back for better gear.
Content and replayability
The demo has a defined finish but does not close the file. Four villagers need help with a lost ring, a wolf called Greymaw, a smith's masterwork, and a child's lucky pick. Reaching the bottom of the three-floor Old Copperdeep Mine is the other major goal. The mine holds bats, slimes, goblins, and spiders, plus ore for better gear, and its dangers increase after dark. The village side supports gift-giving, dice at the tavern with the bard, quest-board notices, and villagers who work, gossip, chat, and go to bed at night. Farming covers five crops, fishing uses the green zone, cooking includes stews, pies, and soups, and recipe scrolls add dishes. Build mode handles floors, furniture, workbenches, lights, and fences, while the cottage can grow. One adopted stray, either a puppy or a baby dragon, adds a daily find and combat support. After the demo's goals are done, the save remains for continued farming, fishing, and exploration.
The full game plans four climes, seven villages with taverns and waystones, five more dungeons, three Ward Shards, the Hollow King, and a paddock for chickens, sheep, cows, and pigs.
Presentation and performance
The demo's look is pixel art from a top-down view, with the wider setting split into four climes. The cottage, village, garden, mine, and tavern scenes are presented in that style, while villagers keep daily routines and head to bed at night. The build tools add furniture, workbenches, lights, and fences to the home, and the mine introduces bats, slimes, goblins, and spiders. The game is an HTML5 browser demo, so play happens in the browser rather than through a separate client; fullscreen is the recommended way to view it. Saves are automatic in the browser, which makes returning simple, but clearing the browser's site data erases the file. The demo offers English, German, and Italian. The interface includes a pack, journal, map, crafting screen, build mode, and options.
Who should play it
Spirevale suits players who want a cozy life-sim with a clear adventure hook. The farming loop covers tilling, sowing, and watering wheat, carrots, potatoes, pumpkins, and berries; fishing has the green-zone challenge; cooking uses stews, pies, soups, and recipe scrolls; and build mode supports floors, furniture, workbenches, lights, and fences. Players who like village life get gift-giving, a tavern dice game with the bard, a quest board, and four specific villager troubles. The mine adds combat with swords, quick knives, heavy battleaxes, bows, wands, and staves, plus bats, slimes, goblins, spiders, and ore. Adopting the puppy or baby dragon gives a companion that follows, fights, and brings a morning find. The demo is free, browser-based, and in development, so it fits someone who wants to try the systems now and keep a save for later farming, fishing, and exploration. It is less suited to a player seeking a finished campaign, since the full game's four climes, seven villages, five dungeons, Ward Shards, Hollow King, and animal paddock are planned content.
