The short answer
Tidy Tornado is a free browser survival roguelite about a tiny robot vacuum cleaning a messy house. Drag to steer, tap or flick to dash, and let automatic gadgets shred dust bunnies, crumbs, socks, and lint spiders. Collect dust gems, choose one of three upgrades, survive four minutes, then beat the room boss. It starts fast and runs in portrait on phones as well as desktop.
What is Tidy Tornado?
Tidy Tornado puts the player in control of a tiny robot vacuum inside a house that has become a disaster. Dust bunnies, cookie crumbs, angry socks, and lint spiders swarm from the first second, so the opening is a scramble rather than a quiet setup. The structure is a bite-size survival roguelite: steer through the mess while gadgets fire automatically, then collect dust gems from defeated enemies to grow stronger. The aim is to assemble a cleaning machine that can last four minutes, at which point the room boss arrives. Runs are short and repeatable, and the upgrade path can push a vacuum in different directions from one attempt to the next. The tone is cute and arcade-like rather than grim, even though the dust is fighting back. It is free to play in a browser and was released on 03 November 2026.
How to play
A run opens with the vacuum already surrounded. The immediate job is to move through the room, let the gadgets handle attacking, and sweep up dust gems from fallen dust bunnies, cookie crumbs, angry socks, and lint spiders. Gems drive level-ups, and every level-up presents three upgrade cards; selecting one shapes the current build. The dash is more than an escape tool: it makes the vacuum briefly unable to be hurt and lets it push straight through the mess. The run has a four-minute target, then the room boss appears. Clearing a room unlocks the next one, so progress moves through Kitchen, Living Room, Kids' Room, and Garage. Coins can be spent on permanent upgrades and on additional vacuums. The overall loop is short enough to retry quickly: survive the swarm, assemble a stronger cleaning machine, beat the boss, and carry coins forward.
Controls
Phone play is designed around one thumb. Hold and drag anywhere on the screen to steer the vacuum. Tap or flick to dash; while a finger is steering, a tap with a second finger also triggers the dash. When an upgrade choice appears, tap the card to pick it. Desktop play uses WASD or the arrow keys to move, Space or Shift to dash, and the 1, 2, or 3 keys to select a card. R rerolls the card choice. Pause is available from the top-left button, Esc, or P. The speaker button at the top right or M toggles sound. Switching apps or tabs triggers an automatic pause. The scheme keeps movement and dash separate enough that dash timing matters, especially because the dash cannot be hurt mid-dash and can bash straight through the mess.

Tips for your first run
The first run is about survival, not perfection. Enemies arrive immediately, so keep moving and let the automatic gadgets do their job while focusing on positioning. Dust gems are the route to power: each one helps push toward the next level-up and another three-card choice. When the SURROUNDED! ring appears, dash out instead of trying to walk free. The dash is also a defensive tool because the vacuum cannot be hurt in the middle of it and can bash through the mess.
On desktop, R rerolls a card choice when the three options do not fit the build. Coins persist in browser storage and fund permanent upgrades and new vacuums, so short runs still feed long-term progress. If the standard rooms feel familiar, Daily Mess adds a twist such as Sock Storm, Glass Cannon, or Gem Rain and pays 1.5x coins. That daily option gives another route back after the room path has been sampled.
- Dash through SURROUNDED! rings; walking out is not the intended answer.
- Collect dust gems to reach three-card upgrade choices.
- Use dash to cross mess and avoid damage, not only to escape.
- On desktop, press R to reroll an upgrade selection.
- Check Daily Mess for a twist and 1.5x coins.
Content and replayability
Replay value comes from build variety and a clear progression layer. A run draws from six gadgets and six passives, with each passive carrying five levels, so the three-card choices can push a vacuum in different directions. Four rooms provide the structure: Kitchen, Living Room, Kids' Room, and Garage. Each room has its own mess and a boss, including The Grease Glob, Couch Clump, Toy Box Tyrant, and The Oil Baron. Clearing one unlocks the next. Coins can be spent on permanent upgrades and on three additional vacuums named Bubbles, Sparky, and Chug. Daily Mess adds a fresh challenge each day with a modifier such as Sock Storm, Glass Cannon, or Gem Rain, plus 1.5x coins. Best scores and saved progress sit in browser storage on the device. Runs are designed to last around four minutes before the boss, which keeps retries quick and makes a failed attempt easy to shake off. The named bosses and their rooms give each unlock a clear target.
Presentation and performance
The presentation leans into arcade feedback. SWEEP combos, critical hits, hit-flash, squash and stretch, and screen shake all mark successful cleaning, while a slurp sound rises in pitch as the vacuum works. Music is made in code rather than sourced from a recorded soundtrack. The visual tone is cute, matching enemies such as dust bunnies, angry socks, and lint spiders instead of turning the house into a horror scene. The game is built to play in portrait on a phone and also works on desktop, with an automatic pause when the player switches apps or tabs. It runs as an HTML5 game in the browser. On privacy, it collects no personal data and uses no accounts, ads, analytics, or trackers; it also makes no network requests. Coins, upgrades, unlocks, and best scores are saved in browser storage on the device.
Who should play it
Tidy Tornado fits players who want a short survival roguelite they can start without a tutorial wall. The one-thumb phone scheme, automatic gadgets, and four-minute run target make it a good fit for quick sessions, while the three-card upgrades and six gadgets give build-minded players something to tweak. Cute enemy names and a dust-themed house keep the tone light. High-score chasers have best scores saved and Daily Mess modifiers to revisit. Completionists can work toward permanent upgrades, four room bosses, and the unlockable vacuums Bubbles, Sparky, and Chug. Desktop players get keyboard controls, and phone players get portrait play. Anyone expecting a long narrative campaign should look elsewhere; the structure is short runs across four rooms. It is free to play, with an optional $2 tip for the studio. The optional tip is separate from the free game.
