The short answer
Spell Weave is a run-based, single-player deckbuilder in a free demo. Fuse two cards into one, socket gems, and trigger reactions across two 15-row tower layers. Each turn gives 3 AP and a 4-card hand, while optional Pantheon Contracts and an endless mode after the Cloud Steps boss add reasons to refine the build.
What is Spell Weave (Demo)?
Spell Weave is a run-based card game about constructing spells rather than simply drafting them. Two cards can be woven into a single stronger card that keeps both effects, and gems can be placed into that card to add damage, healing, extra cards, or other benefits. The deck is capped at 20 cards, so every fusion carries weight.
The demo is free and in development. It includes two tower layers, the Outer Gallery and the Cloud Steps, each built as a 15-row map that ends with a boss. Clearing the Cloud Steps boss opens an endless mode. Water, Fire, Lightning, and Ice combine into 10 reactions, and enemies can use elements too, creating Backlash risk. The Blood God system lets a player pay HP instead of AP, fill a Blood Pool, and turn it into Bloodsurges when reactions occur.
How to play
Each turn begins with 3 AP and a 4-card hand. Cards are selected and dragged with the left mouse button; holding left click reveals details for cards, gems, or relics. The core action is weaving: two cards fuse into one stronger card that carries both effects. Because the deck cannot exceed 20 cards, fusion is a commitment, not a side activity.
Gems socketed into a card can add damage, healing, extra cards, and other effects. Elements matter: Water, Fire, Lightning, and Ice produce 10 different reactions. Enemies can use elements as well, so Backlash is a live risk when planning a sequence. Before each tower layer, an optional Pantheon Contract can be accepted; meeting its goals raises Blood God rank and unlocks new cards, while failure only forfeits the reward. A run moves through fights, elites, shops, campfires, events, and treasure, so the route shapes which cards and gems are worth taking.
Controls
Controls are mouse-and-keyboard driven. Left click selects a card or drags it into play. Holding left click opens details for any card, gem, or relic. Right click or Esc goes back, and Esc with nothing open brings up Settings. The map, deck, Spell Crystal, and relic hotkeys can be rebound there.
The default keys are M for the map, D for the deck, C for the Spell Crystal rules and reactions reference, and R for relics. The Spell Crystal screen is the quick rules and reaction lookup during a run. The left-click drag is the main play gesture, while the hold gesture reads card, gem, and relic text without leaving the current screen. Those bindings cover the main navigation screens used between fights.

Tips for your first run
Treat the 20-card limit as the defining constraint. Fusing combines two cards into one stronger card, so the deck becomes tighter and more focused with each weave. Before adding a gem, check whether the card already supports the plan; a healing gem on a damage card can dilute the result.
Use the Spell Crystal reference during early fights. Water, Fire, Lightning, and Ice create 10 reactions, and enemies can trigger Backlash, so watching both sides of the board matters. Pantheon Contracts are optional; take one only when the goals fit the route already chosen.
- At campfires, remember that cards can be upgraded up to +3.
- Plan the 15-row route through fights, elites, shops, campfires, events, and treasure before committing to a contract.
- If a run reaches the Cloud Steps boss, endless mode follows, so a clean build has room to keep growing.
- Use the title screen feedback button for bugs or thoughts; the form is estimated at about 3 minutes.
Content and replayability
The demo contains two tower layers: the Outer Gallery and the Cloud Steps. Each is a 15-row map with a boss at the top. Beating the Cloud Steps boss unlocks endless mode, which lets a completed build keep pushing. That structure gives a first run a clear endpoint and a second phase for players who want to test a refined deck.
Replay value comes from the fusion and gem systems rather than a large card pool alone. With a 20-card cap, different weaves and socket choices produce different decks. Pantheon Contracts, taken before each layer, add optional goals that raise Blood God rank and unlock new cards. The Blood God path trades HP for AP, fills a Blood Pool, and converts reactions into Bloodsurges. Route choices between fights, elites, shops, campfires, events, and treasure also change what a run can support.
Presentation and performance
Spell Weave is presented as a browser-playable HTML5 demo and a Windows download. The browser version saves progress in the browser, so clearing site data removes that save. The Windows version arrives as a zip; extract it and run SpellWeave.exe. Those platform details matter before starting a long run, because the save model differs by version.
The demo supports English and Traditional Chinese, and the interface includes a Spell Crystal reference for rules and reactions. Four screenshots are available, but the game is in active development, so content, balance, and art may change. The HTML5 frame allows browser play, while the Windows build is a downloadable package. A Give Feedback button on the title screen opens a form estimated at about 3 minutes.
Who should play it
This demo suits players who like tight deckbuilding choices more than broad collection building. The 20-card ceiling, two-card fusion, and gem socketing reward planning before a card is added. Short turns with 3 AP and a 4-card hand keep each decision focused, while the 10 elemental reactions give combo-minded players a reason to watch enemy elements and Backlash.
It also fits roguelike players who enjoy route planning across fights, elites, shops, campfires, events, and treasure. The two 15-row tower layers and the endless mode after the Cloud Steps boss provide both a finish line and a testing ground. Players who want to influence the final game can use the title screen feedback button; the demo is in development, so balance and art may shift.
